Born in Kingston. Portsmouth, Hampshire. Son of Henry and Sarah Ann Ansell, of 77, Claremont Road, Fratton, Portsmouth. He lived at Parkhurst, Isle of Wight. He was a coachbuilder. He enlisted at Parkhurst on 28th March 1903. He served in India from the 5th January 1909 to the 2nd of September 1914. He went to France on 4th November 1914. He was appointed Lance Corporal 11th February 1915, promoted Corporal 24th May 1915 and Sergeant 7th July 1916. He died, 27th May 1918, aged 30, at La Pecherie Ferme casualty clearing station as a prisoner of war
