Company Sergeant Major Richard Williams Annison

Born at Tunbridge, Kent. Son of James and Mary Annison, of London Road., Reading; husband of Winifred Mary Annison, of 9, St. Augustine Street, Derby. He served for 15 years in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry on the North-West Frontier of India (Tirah, 1897-98) and in South Africa. He held the long service medal and good conduct badge. He was a tram conductor for Derby Corporation Tramways prior to re-enlisting 25th August 1914 with the 9th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He went to Gallipoli on 1st July 1915 and was killed in action, 9th August 1915, aged 40., during the attack at Ismail Oglu Tepe (Chocolate Hill), Gallipoli, Turkey.
