Son of Walter of Bridge Farm, Palgrave, Diss, Norfolk. He was a butcher prior to enlisting into the 9th Battalion Suffolk Regiment at Bury St. Edmunds on 20th May 1916. He went to France on 16th September 1916 and was awarded the Military Medal London Gazette Date 21st August 1917. He was transferred to the 2nd Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 7th February 1918 and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Morchies, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
