Born at Newcastle-on-Tyne, County Durham. Son of Henry and Frances Anderson, of 4, Cambrian Row, Walker, Newcastle-on-Tyne. He enlisted on 29th May 1917 at Newcastle-on-Tyne to a training battalion and was transferred to the 13th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 1st December 1917. He went to France on 13th February 1918 and was posted to the 2nd Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on the 18th February 1918. He was taken prisoner of war on 21st March 1918 and died 16th July 1918, aged 19, in the Reserve Hospital, Munster Germany,
