Lance Corporal John William Amos
Army Number: 96003 (formerly 76741 South Staffordshire Regiment)
Battalion: 10th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Hollington, Staffordshire and lived at Gorton, Lancashire. Son of Arthur James and Isabella Amos. He was a bricklayers labourer and enlisted at Oakamoor, Staffordshire, 3rd December 1915. He went to France on 13th September 1917 with the 5th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment and was transferred to the 12th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 15th September 1917. Was posted to the 10th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 21st September 1917 and appointed Lance Corporal 21st January 1918. He was killed in action, 22nd March 1918, during the offensive near Hermies, France.
