Corporal John James Alvey

Battalion: 1/8th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire. Son of George and Annie Alvey, of 21, New England Street, Pleasley, Mansfield. He enlisted at Mansfield and was killed in action, 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
