Born at Belper, Derbyshire and lived at Cow Hill, Belper. Husband of Ada Potter (formerly Alton), of 9, Canada Street, Belper. He was a labourer prior to enlisting at Derby on 21st July 1915. He went to France on 3rd March 1916 and suffered gunshot wounds to his head on 25th March 1916 and died of wounds, 28th March 1916, at No. 30 Casualty Clearing Station at Aubigny, France.
