Private Albert Alton

Battalion: 15th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Son of Willis John and Ann Alton, of 10, Chaworth Street, Bulwell, Nottingham. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Nottingham on 8th June 1915. He went to France on 6th February 1916 and suffered shell wounds to his legs and foot on 11th September 1916. He was admitted to hospital in Boulogne, France, on 13th September 1916 and transferred to England on Hospital Ship St. Patrick on 14th September 1916. He returned to France on 16th January 1917 and was killed in action, 23rd October 1917, during the operations south of Houthulst Forest, Belgium.
