Private John William Allsop

Battalion: 1st Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Ashover, Derbyshire. Son of John and Eliza Allsop, of Overton, Ashover. He was a horse driver prior to enlisting at Derby on 1st September 1914. He went to France on 27th January 1915 and suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. He was sent to England on Hospital Ship Valdivia on 13th March 1915. On recovery, he returned to France and was killed in action, 5th August 1915, whilst serving in the trenches near Rouge de Bout, France.
