He was born in Radford, Nottingham. Son of Edwin and Kate Allitt, of 60, Garden Street, Radford Nottingham. Husband of Lucy Ann Allitt, of Normanton, near Southwell, Nottinghamshire. He was a lace hand and a member of the local militia from 1907 until 1912. He then joined the special reserve and went to France on 5th November 1915 with the 1st Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was killed in action whilst serving in the line, 13th August 1916, near the Quarry sector at Vermelles, France.
