Born at Retford, Nottinghamshire. Son of Hannah Allen, of Spitelhill, Retford. Husband of Mrs Mary May Allen, of 76, Grove Street, Retford. He was a milkman prior to enlisting at Retford. He was killed in action, on 27th May 1918, whilst the battalion was in a retiring fight from Montagne de Guyancourt, France.
