Born at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, Son of John Foulds and Mary Ann Allen, of 2, Hill St., Pleasley, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire; husband of Alice May Allen, of 11, George Street, Ladybrook Lane, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He lived at 23 Crown Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. He was a miner at Bolsover Colliery prior to enlisting at Mansfield on 9th September 1914. He went to France on 2nd March 1915, was promoted to Corporal on 7th June 1916 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
