Company Sergeant Major Charles Allen

Battalion: 10th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at lived at Dronfield, Derbyshire. Son of Frank Allen of 24 Stoke Fields, Dronfield. He enlisted at Chesterfield, Derbyshire, on 24th August 1914. Was appointed Lance Corporal on 16th November 1914 and promoted Corporal on 27th October 1915. He was promoted to Lance Sergeant on 14th July 1916 and went to France on 8th August 1916. He suffered gas poisoning and was admitted to No. 1. Stationary Hospital Frevant, France 4th October 1916. On the 1st January 1917, he was promoted to Sergeant and Company Sergeant Major on 10th April 1917. He was killed in action, on 29th October 1917, by German shellfire whilst serving in the line near Hazebrouck, France.
