Born Heaton Norris, Cheshire. Son of Henry William and Millicent Allen, of 18, Dickens Street, Moorside, Oldham, Lancashire. Lived at 12, Grafton Street, Moorside, Oldham. He was a hairdresser prior to enlisting at Grantham, near Preston, Lancashire 20th January 1916 into the 14th Battalion Manchester Regiment. He went to France on 2nd March 1917 and was transferred to the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was posted to the 11th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 12th March 1917, the 12th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 22nd April 1917 and the 2/7th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 24th October 1917. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
