He was born at Islington, Middlesex. Husband of Elizabeth Sophie Allen, of 2, Hale Street, New North Islington, Middlesex. He was a royal mail letter driver prior to enlisting at London on 11th December 1915 into the 2/5th East Surrey Regiment. He was transferred to the Derbyshire Yeomanry on 23rd January 1917. He went to France 13th December 1917 and was transferred to the 12th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was posted to the 10th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 21st September 1917 and was killed in action, 12th October 1917, during the attack at Hazebrouck, France.
