He was born and lived at Hasland, Derbyshire. Son of Thomas and Hannah Allen, of 7 Storforth Lane, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Chesterfield, Derbyshire and was killed in action, on 5th July 1916 during the attack on the German positions at La Boisselle, France during the Battle of the Somme
