Born in Philidelphia, United States of America. Son of Mary E. Sheldon, of Ilkeston, Derbyshire; Husband of Lillian Aldinger, of 9, Victoria Street, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Derby 10th March 1915. He went to France on 10th December 1915 and was killed in action, 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
