Battalion: 1st Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Ancoats, Manchester. Husband of Florrie Alderson, of 19, Saville Street, Miles Platting, Manchester. He was a butcher prior to enlisting at Newton Heath, Manchester 10th December 1915. Went to France on 28th February 1916 with the 1/8th Battalion King’s Liverpool Regiment. He suffered gunshot wounds to his right cheek on 16th September 1917 and was treated at No. 64 Casualty Clearing Station at Mendighem, Belgium, No. 55 General Hospital Boulogne, 18th September 1917, and then was invalided to England 21st September 1917. He was treated at Beach Hospital Westgate on Sea, Kent, Shorncliffe Military Hospital, Kent and Croydon War Hospital, Surrey. On recovery, he was posted to the 7th Battalion King’s Liverpool Regiment on 18th January 1918 and returned to France on 27th March 1918. He was transferred to the 7th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 29th March 1918 and later posted to the 1st Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 17th June 1918. He was killed in action, on 28th August 1918, during the German counter-attack at Oppy, France.
