Battalion: 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Ulverston, Lancashire (Cumbria). Son of Edward and Mary Ellen Ainsworth of 13, Manvers Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Mansfield on 26th August 1914. He embarked for Gallipoli on 1st July 1915 and disembarked at Cape Helles, 21st July 1915. He was killed in action on 9th August 1915 in the attack at Ismail Oglu Tepe, (Chocolate Hill), Gallipoli, Turkey.
