Corporal Alfred Afford

Battalion: 1/6th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Chesterfield, Derbyshire and lived at North Wingfield, Derbyshire. Son of Arthur and Myra Afford, of 4, Lings Cottages, Temple Normanton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Clay Cross, Derbyshire on 13th May 1911. He went to France on 25th February 1915, was appointed Lance Corporal on 8th May 1915 and promoted Corporal on 11th August 1915. He was killed in action on 14th October 1915 whilst the battalion was holding the Hohenzollern Redoubt, France.
