Private Joseph Adkin

Battalion: 1/6th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born and lived at Staveley, Derbyshire. Son of William and Mary Adkin, of 33, Poolsbrook Cottages, Staveley. He was a coal miner at Staveley Coal and Iron Company prior to enlisting at Brimmington, Derbyshire, 7th September 1913. Went to France on 25th February 1915 where he received gunshot wounds to his back on 9th August 1915 and was admitted to the Rawal Pindi British General Hospital, Wimereux on 10th August 1915. On recovery, he rejoined the battalion on 7th October 1915 and was killed in action on 14th October 1915 whilst the battalion was holding the line at Hohenzollern Redoubt, France.
