Born at Stapenhill, Derbyshire. Son of George Arthur and Elizabeth Adams, of 76, Heath Road, Stapenhill. He was a glass polisher prior to enlisting at Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, 29th May 1915 with the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He went to France on 9th December 1915. Was admitted to the 23rd General Hospital Etaples, France on 18th February 1916 suffering from Nephritis (inflammation of the kidneys) and was transferred to England on 17th May 1916. He was admitted to Queen Mary’s Royal Naval Hospital, Southend and was discharged on 16th June 1916. Returned to France later in 1916 and was transferred back to England on 21st August 1917. Posted to the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 6th November 1917 and returned to France on 14th November 1917. He was then posted to the 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 25th November 1917. He was reported missing on 21st March 1918. He died of wounds whilst a prisoner of war on 23rd July 1918, aged 26.
