Son of Charles Alfred Ernest and Florence G. Abbott, of 13, Cotham Gardens, Bristol. Became 2nd Lieutenant with the 4th Battalion Sherwood Foresters 4th October 1915. He went to France on 25th July 1916 and joined the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters on the 7th of August 1916.
He was awarded the Military Cross. London Gazette date 14th November 1916, ” For Gallantry and devotion to duty at Ginchy 15th September 1916. He repulsed persistent enemy bombing attacks practically single-handed, thereby saving a crucial situation. He displayed great courage and initiative throughout “. He was killed in action when on a daylight raid of the German trenches near Dickebusche, Belgium whilst he was returning to his own lines bringing in a captured German machine gun, 9th July 1918, aged 19.
