Born and lived at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of Elijah and Mary Ball, of 28, George Street, Mansfield. Husband of Mary Ball, 13, Bancroft Lane, Mansfield. He was a coal miner at Bentinck Colliery, Kirkby, Nottinghamshire, prior to enlisting at Mansfield. He went to France on 27th August 1915 and died of wounds, on 20th June 1916, aged 38.
