Born and enlisted at Nottingham lived at Willoughby on the Wolds, Nottinghamshire. He enlisted at Nottingham and went to France on 28th February 1915. He was killed in action, 1st July 1916, aged 20, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
