Went to France on 2nd May 1915. Private 2751 (later Corporal 305752): 1/8th Battalion: London Gazette 15.9.1915: For conspicuous gallantry on the 30th July 1915, at Sanctuary Wood, Ypres, when he led a small party of bombers against the enemy. When his own grenades failed to explode, He picked up several unexploded German ones, and threw them, killing several of the enemies. Later he held his trench with great coolness and bravery under a heavy bomb and machine-gun fire until reinforced. The following day he performed a similar action: Killed in Action 22nd March 1918, during a heavy barrage and raid by the enemy on the lines in the Cambrin Sector, near Annequin.
