Born 13th February 1896 at Sutton-In-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of George And Mary Ellen Townsend, of 24, Bourne Street, Sutton-In-Ashfield. He was a coal miner and enlisted at Sutton-in-Ashfield, August 1914. He was killed in action 9th April 1917, age 21.
