He was born and lived at Green Lane, Ockbrook, Derbyshire. Son of Mrs. Mary Thornton, of Green Lane, Ockbrook, Derbyshire. Was a miner. He enlisted 26th May 1915 at Derby, Went to France 6th March 1916 and suffered gunshot wounds to his hands and thigh on 14th February 1917 and was treated in No.13 General Hospital, Boulogne. Rejoined his battalion 2nd May 1917. He died 19th October 1917
