Lieutenant Richard Henry Stranger

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born 19th December 1889 at North Molton, Devonshire. Son of Richard John and Wilhelmina Key Stranger, of “Winsford,” Istead Rise, Gravesend. He was educated at “The Hermitage’ Bath and “All Hallows” Honiton, Devon. He joined the Royal Sussex Militia as 2nd Lieutenant In January 1908. and afterwards went into the Special Reserve, from which in May 1910 he was gazetted Second Lieutenant in the Sherwood Foresters, being posted to the 1st Battalion, then stationed at Secunderabad, India. He became Lieutenant in August 1912 and Adjutant of his battalion in July 1913. He went to France on 5th November 1914 and was severely wounded at Neuve Chapelle, 13th March 1915 and died the same day aged 25.
