Battalion : 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born 7th May 1877. Son of William Joseph and Sarah Smith; Husband of Hannah Smith, of 43, Michael Street, Sutton-In-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. He was a framework knitter. He enlisted 2nd December 1914 and went to France 3rd May 1915. He was wounded in action 17th June 1915 with gunshot wounds to his right shoulder and was invalided to England on Hospital Ship St. Andrew 23rd June 1915. On recovery he returned to France 9th December 1915 and was killed in action 16th September 1916, age 39.
