Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Son of Joe and Sarah Smith, of 14, Birken Avenue, Nottingham; husband of Elizabeth Ann Thompson (Formerly Smith), of 40, Garden Street, New Radford, Nottingham. He went to France on 4th November 1914 and was killed in action, on 12th March 1915, aged 29, in the German counter-attack and then the British counter-attack during the Battle of Neuve Chapelle, France.
