Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Smeeton, of 48, Wolfa Street, Derby. Went to France on 4th November 1914 with the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. Killed in action, 1st July 1916, aged 27, in the attack on the German positions near Ovillers, France during the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
