Born at Margate, Kent and lived at 5 Hastings Road, Margate. Husband of Dora Sinclair, of 8, Glencoe Road, Margate. He was Upholsterer prior to enlisting 28th April 1915 at London into the Army Service Corps. He went to France 5th May 1915 and was granted Good Conduct Badge 28th April 1917. He was transferred to the 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 20th August 1917.

He was admitted to No. 7 Stationary Hospital at Wisques, near Boulogne, France, 18th December 1917 suffering from trench fever. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship St. Patrick, 26th December 1917. Once in England he was treated at an Auxiliary Military Hospital, Liverpool from 27th December 1917 to the 3rd May 1918.

He was posted to the 3rd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 23rd August 1918, returned to France 18th September 1918 and posted 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 21st September 1917. He was killed in action, 10th October 1918, aged 37, in the attack near Bohain, France.
