Born at Nottingham. Son of Vessey and Mary Shipman, of 14, Reigate Road, Old Basford, Nottingham. Enlisted at Nottingham. He served in Gallipoli in 1915 with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. Transferring to 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment he went to France where he was wounded during an artillery barrage near Mazingarbe, France and was transported back to England where he died of wounds at Wharncliffe War Hospital, Sheffield, on 2nd March 1917, aged 20.
