Born Arnold, Nottinghamshire. Son of Jacob and Elizabeth Rose of 30, West Street, Arnold, Nottinghamshire. Educated at the British School, Front Street, Arnold,, Nottinghamshire. He enlisted at Nottingham, went to France 16th February 1915 and was killed in action 12th March 1915 at the Battle of Neuve Chapelle.
