Born at Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. Lived at 9, Mellors Row, Hucknall. He was a miner for Linby Coal Company before enlisting 21st November 1911 at Kimberley, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 25th February 1915 and was killed in action 30th August 1915.

Buried : Woods Cemetery, Belgium. Plot I. Row A. Grave 12.
