Born at Woolwich and lived at 20, Bessingham Road, Wandsworth, London. Husband of Ellen Elizabeth Prosser, of 68, Cicada Road, Wandsworth, London. He was a Carpenter aged 15 and then enlisted on 10th April 1891 at Dover. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 10th August 1898 promoted Corporal, on 3rd March 1899 appointed Lance Sergeant, on 1st October 1902, and promoted Sergeant on 2nd October 1903. He was awarded the Silver Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct in October 1909. He served in Malta, from 10th November 1897 to 26th September 1899, South Africa from 27th September 1899 to 28th September 1902. In Gibraltar from 31st August 1906 to 22nd October 1908 and India from 23rd October 1908 to 15th October 1912. He re-engaged 5th March 1915 at Wandsworth into the 6th Battalion Border Regiment. He went to Gallipoli, in July 1915. He was commissioned Lieutenant, Worcestershire Regiment on 21st October 1915. He later joined/attached to the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed at Mesnil, 26th November 1916, aged 41.
