Born and lived at Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Son of Francis And Hannah Pickering, of The Black Firs, Ashleyhay, Wirksworth. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting at Derby. He died of pneumonia 2nd February 1915, aged 27 at No. 30 General Hospital, Calais, France.

Buried: Calais Southern Cemetery, France. Plot F. Row 2. Grave 17.
