Private Frank Parkes

Battalion: 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of Mr And Mrs Parkes, of 89, Imperial Road, Beeston, Nottingham; husband of Mrs S. Gunn (formerly Parkes), of 4, Baron Street, Old Radford, Nottingham. He was a lacemaker prior to enlisting 14th June 1915 at Nottingham into the 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was posted to the 19th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, on 6th March 1916. He went to France 6th July 1916 and was posted to the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 17th July 1916. He suffered shrapnel wounds to his right leg and was admitted to 1st Canadian Hospital, Etaples, France, 20th September 1916. He was transferred to England, 21st September 1916. He returned to France 12th February 1917. He suffered gunshot wounds to his shoulder, 7th July 1917 and was transferred to the 18th General Hospital, Camiers, France and then 6th General Hospital, Etaples, 12th July 1917. He rejoined the 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 27th September 1917, aged 29, by German shellfire, whilst in the line near the Menin Road, Belgium.
