Born 28th June 1898 at Hull. Son of John and Annie Medcalf, of 2, Idoncious Court, Upper Union Street, Hull. He was a labourer prior to enlisting 29th November 1916 at City Hall, Hall. He was posted to the 13th Training Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 1st December 1916, transferred to the 3rd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 24th November 1917. He went to France 13th February 1918 and was posted 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 18th February 1918. He was killed in action, 19th March 1918, during the German shelling of the trenches at Favreuil, France.
