Born at Rochdale and lived at 8 New Street, Newark, Nottinghamshire. Son of George Shepherd and Constance Massey, of 63, Buck Street, Leigh, Lancashire. He was a turner at Ransome and Marles, Newark, prior to enlisting 8th September 1914 at Newark. He went to France 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action, 6th June 1915, aged 18, whilst serving in the line at Kemmel, Belgium.
