Born at Bulwell, Nottingham. Son of John and Elizabeth Major of Honey Place, Bulwell. He was a miner at Warsop colliery. He enlisted at Mansfield in September 1914. Went to France 27th August 1915, was wounded in the head and chest near Authuille Wood, Somme, and was transported back to England. He was admitted to Napsbury Hospital, St. Albans, London, and died of his wounds 22nd July 1916, age 26.
