Born at Northampton. Son of Hubert and Elizabeth Ann Linnell, of “Mandalay,” Park Road, Chilwell, Nottingham. Lived at Clumber House, Mapperley, Nottingham. He enlisted at Nottingham and was killed in action during the attack on the Schwaben Redoubt, Somme, France, 3rd September 1916, aged 19.

Buried: Mill Road Cemetery, Thiepval, France. Plot 12 Row A, Grave 3.
