Private George Frederick Lester

Battalion : 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

He was born at Colchester and lived at Hockerton, Nottinghamshire. Son of Henry and Ellen Lester, of Upton, Southwell, Nottinghamshire. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting at Whitwell, Nottinghamshire. He served in Gallipoli during 1915 with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He later went to France and was transferred to the 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 7th April 1917, aged 23, during the attack at Le Verguier, north-west of Saint Quentin, France.
