British 15 Star, British War and Victory MedalBorn in Manchester. Son of John Plowright Houfton and Frances Houfton, of Park Hall, Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire. He attended Queen Elizabeth School, Mansfield and the Lees School Cambridge. He was a civil engineer prior to enlisting 5th August 1914 and commissioned Lieutenant 7th September 1914 with the 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He went to France on 12th July 1915 and was killed in action, 12th November 1915, aged 28, by a German Sniper whilst examining advanced trenches near Vielle Chappelle, France.
