Born at Ordsall, Nottinghamshire. Son of Thomas Edward and Harriet Hincks, of 40, Wharton Street, Retford, Nottinghamshire. He was an iron foundry labourer prior to enlisting 2nd November 1911 at Retford. He went to France 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action, 24th April 1915, aged 23, by German shellfire, whilst serving in the line at Kemmel, Belgium.
