British 15 Star, British War and Victory MedalBorn 11th August 1896 at Pitsmoor, Sheffield, Yorkshire. Son of John and Elizabeth Hersey, of 18, Kingston Street, Pitsmoor. He was a Ladle Lad (Steel Industry) prior to enlisting 27th May 1915 at Sheffield. He was posted to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to France 9th December 1915. He suffered gunshot wounds to his left thigh 15th October 1916 and died of these wounds, 17th October 1916, aged 19, at No. 34 Casualty Clearing Station, Meaulte, France.
