Born at Nottingham and lived at 132, Birkin Avenue, Nottingham. Son of Harry and Mary Ann Hawthorne, He was an apprentice cycle wheel maker at Raleigh prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He died of wounds due to gas poisoning 17th June 1917, aged 21, received at St. Pierre, near Loos, France.
