Born at Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire. Son of Charles and Sarah Hardy, of 38, Co-operative Street, Stanton Hill, Nottinghamshire. Husband of Mary Hardy of 15 Slater Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. He was a coal miner at Butcher Wood Colliery, Teversal, Nottinghamshire before enlisting at Sutton-in-Ashfield 7th September 1914. Went to France 2nd March 1915, was appointed Lance Corporal 27th August 1915 and was killed in action 14th October 1915
