Born at Chapel-En-Le-Frith, Derbyshire. Son of James and Elizabeth Greatorex, of  The Wash, Chapel-En-Le-Frith. He was a sheet cutter for High Peak Iron Company prior to enlisting 1st September 1914 at Chapel-En-Le-Frith. He went to France 28th February 1915 and died, 4th July 1915, aged 18, at No. 43 Field Ambulance from wounds received whilst on a working party at Ypres, Belgium
